Maintenance Hangar

As the design-build general contractor, BlueScope Construction successfully executed on the Spirit Airlines Maintenance Hangar project for the Detroit Metro Airport. They designed the building with independent “lean-tos” apart from the hangar to make it possible to work through the harsh winter weather conditions.

They operated under quick deadlines through the winter, and the occupancy date for the hangar was achieved.

Features of the hangar include:

  • 126,840 sq. ft.
  • Positions for three A-321 aircrafts
  • Engine, seat, sheet metal shops; painting booth, stores, and a training area
  • Freight and passenger elevators
  • Radiant heating system
  • Boiler fired heat for support areas and glycol system to prevent ice build up
