To meet the growing needs of the government building sector, full-service design-build general contractor BlueScope Construction (“BSC”) has announced it will narrow its focus to service government and community services clients exclusively. BSC couples its expertise in structural design and construction of pre-engineered and conventional steel structural systems with both a Government Services Administration (GSA) contract and a Sourcewell contract to provide municipal, regional, state and federal government and community service agencies with high-quality buildings that meet owner needs and timelines.
BSC will operate as a segment of its parent company, BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc. (”BBNA”), a BlueScope company.
In 2023, BSC was awarded its third Sourcewell contract; it was the only design-build, turnkey contractor to be awarded one of Sourcewell’s new four-year contracts. Sourcewell is a leading government agency specializing in cooperative purchasing. As dedicated procurement experts, Sourcewell combines the buying power of 50,000 government, education and nonprofit organizations.
More recently, BSC was certified by the Certified Environmentally Responsible Contractor (CERC) program. To date, only 154 companies in the United States have earned this certification, and BSC is the first general contractor to do so.
BSC maintains a national network of over 2,000 local builders who are experts in their fields and communities and serve as valuable partners in labor availability, subcontractor qualifications, material and equipment resources, and more.
“The work pioneered by BlueScope Construction in the public sector has enabled a strong foundational foothold within these markets,” said BBNA Chief Operating Officer Greg Pasley. “That allows us to increase our focus and pursue new growth opportunities not only for the company but, more importantly, for our builders.”
BSC’s remaining Program Accounts and Construction Services were acquired by Oklahoma-based Fleming Construction Group (FCG), a leader in pre-construction, construction, and postconstruction/retrofit for non-residential and industrial facilities development. This builds on an existing relationship between FCG and the BlueScope brands. “We believe this sale to be a win-win, offering the best path forward for the growth of both the government and non-government segments,” Pasley said. “Fleming Construction Group has a core focus on material-erect and design-build construction projects, and we know they will continue our legacy of delivering customer satisfaction.”
